Director, New Technology

The Consumer Electronics Association has an exciting opportunity for Director of New Technology. This person will be serve as an internal technology advisor and an external technology evangelist for CEA and its member companies. Additionally, this person will scan the industry horizon to identify key technology trends and stakeholders; act as a key public spokesperson for CEA with the media and on the speaking circuit; and act as a key internal advisor to CEA staff on technology trends and technical education.

Critical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as external CEA spokesperson on technology/product issues to the media.
• Advise CEA staff and CEA member divisions on product/technology issues and how they affect CEA goals and/or activities.
• Participate in/conduct panels and speeches on technology trends at CEA events such as the International CES, Washington Forum, and at other widely attended events around the world.
• Contribute editorial content to CEA technology publications, such as Vision Magazine and 5 Technology Trends to Watch, and to CEA websites, such as CE.org and digitaltips.org.
• Compose original editorial content for submission to CE industry publications such as Dealerscope, CE Pro and TWICE.
• Conduct “lunch and learn” series for CEA staff to learn about new products and technology trends.  Maintain product demo lab to try new products and educate CEA staff.
• Develop and maintain relationships, in coordination with CEA communications department, with CE publications and journalists and offer assistance whenever needed.
• Identify key business trends in the US consumer electronics market.
• Prepares case studies on issues and technologies that could attract attention, members and or exhibitors to CEA and CES. 
• Serve as CEA’s internal expert and resource for information on the latest CE products, issues and technologies.
• Serve as hot products spokesperson at CES and helps position CES as the premier event for emerging consumer technologies.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; benchmarking state-of-the art practices; participating in professional societies.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.

Work Experience:
• Five+ years experience in consumer electronics industry, consulting, teaching, or covering the CE industry as a journalist.
• Understanding of technology, trends and communications/public speaking.

Education/Training:

Undergraduate degree preferably in communications, technology, engineering, business or related field.

Skills/Capabilities/Technical:
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong investigative nature and ability to distill information to the general public.
• Familiarity with Internet search tools.
