Environmental Policy Intern


The Consumer Electronics Association has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Policy Intern. The primary function of this position is to assist the Government and Legal Affairs (GLA) environmental policy team with policy positioning, legislation tracking, research, strategy, outreach and other projects as they arise. This includes liaising with the CEA communications, international, marketing and research departments as well as planning for the 2009 International CES. This position also includes preparing for meetings on Capitol Hill and with federal government agency staff, working on environmental and energy efficiency regulatory policy and advancing the technology industry's interest in free market-oriented initiatives.

Relevant focus areas include: electronics waste, energy efficiency, chemical restrictions, sustainable development and green government procurement, among other general environment initiatives.

Looking for energy, enthusiasm and initiative, good communication skills, organization, a general understanding of the federal and state lawmaking processes, as well as basic understanding of global environmental policy. Willingness to contribute creative and innovative ideas to the team a plus!

Critical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Monitor legislation
• Respond to relevant government requests for information
• Research
• Website input, maintenance and marketing
• Help augment industry and government partnerships
• Work with communications on trade, environment and sustainability (including news scan)
• Other projects as they arise

Work Experience:
At least one year (full or part-time) work experience is preferred.

Education/Training:
• Undergraduate degree preferably in related field (i.e. public policy, international affairs, environmental science, economics)
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Fluency in Microsoft Office software
• Web design a plus

Additional Information:
This position requires a minimum 20 hour work week and has a pay rate of $14.00/hr.
