Senior Director, Communications
The Consumer Electronics Association has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director of Communications. The primary function of this position is to assist the Senior Vice President of Industry Affairs in managing the communications staff team and directing public relations programs designed to promote CEA, CEA member products and the consumer electronics industry. Critical Duties and Responsibilities: Lead, develop and direct departmental staff by planning, communicating job expectations, coaching and training. Responsible for team budgets. Oversee development and implementation of promotional and strategic communications campaigns on behalf of CEA membership groups, departments and other groups as assigned, as well as other issue campaigns. Manage CEA executive speakers bureau by pitching speakers, drafting speeches, coordinating related media outreach and related event management. Act as CEA media contact and spokesperson. Interface with CEA departments for message and PR strategy development. Follow new technology developments for dissemination and promotion to media, analysts and other parties. Develop appropriate material to support relevant areas of CEA web sites and other communications vehicles. Write and edit various materials including press releases, industry promotional pieces, speeches, position papers, op-eds and other earned media, etc. Develop partnerships and events to support promotional efforts. Support the International CES and other shows, generally through media outreach activities, and particularly through the promotion of CEA and its initiatives. Work with Senior Director of CES and CEA Events to coordinate staffing, promotional campaigns and media outreach in support of the International CES and CEA events. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; benchmarking state-of-the art practices; participating in professional societies Perform other duties as required by business needs. Work Experience: 10-15 years experience working in communications, public relations, or public affairs on advanced technology-related programs Practiced understanding of strategic communications strategies and tactics Must have experience managing a team of employees Education/Training: BA required Skills/Capabilities/Technical: Proficient in Microsoft Office products Proficient in a variety of on-line applications Experienced in management and budgeting Exemplary written and oral communications skills Budget and Staff: Total budget responsibilities approximately $2 million Staff of four direct reports along with various temps and interns Additional Information: The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is the preeminent trade association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry through technology policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships.
