The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that registration is open for the 2011 International CES®, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, scheduled January 6-9, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® President and CEO Gary Shapiro joined with the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) and TechAmerica to express concern that the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) will permit foreign governments to impose significant civil or criminal liability on U.S. companies for activities that are permitted under U.S. law.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ® today announced that United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Ron Kirk, will deliver a keynote address at the Sixth Annual Digital Patriots Dinner. Vinton G. Cerf, Representative Mike Doyle (D-PA) and Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) will receive 2010 Digital Patriots Awards for their support of technology innovation at the event scheduled for April 21 in Washington, DC.

CEA URGES REAUTHORIZATION OF U.S.-MEXICO TRUCKING PROGRAM
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today urged Congress to reauthorize an agreement allowing Mexican long-haul trucks to enter the United States for purposes of international trade. A year ago today, Congress voted to cancel funding for the NAFTA cross-border trucking program set up under the Bush administration despite its measurable success. As a result of Congress terminating the trade program, the Mexican government has imposed tariffs on U.S.-produced goods totaling $2.4 billion.

CEA'S GARY SHAPIRO SAYS TECH CAN PULL ECONOMY
Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® President and CEO Gary Shapiro was named a "Titan of Technology" this morning by the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) and delivered a groundbreaking speech on the future of the technology industry and our nation's economy. Before several hundred technology executives at an event hosted by the NVTC, Shapiro called innovation and the tech industry our nation's best hope for jobs and economic recovery. He also expressed concern that government may be making matters worse as our nation faces its toughest challenges since World War II.

MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT TRADE, NEW POLL SHOWS
As Republicans arrive in Minneapolis for the GOP National Convention, a new poll released today shows considerable support among Americans for overseas trade. Fifty-eight percent of those polled said they consider trade a good thing because it has reduced the costs of goods such as electronics and clothing while at the same time helping Americans to become more competitive with workers overseas. The survey released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® was conducted by Zogby International.

MOST DEMOCRATS BELIEVE THEY BENEFIT FROM TRADE, NEW CEA POLL SHOWS
Heading into the Democratic National Convention, 62 percent of Democrats report they benefit from free trade and 69 percent said it was a “good thing” that trade and global manufacturing have reduced the costs of consumer electronics sold in the United States. The survey of 3,440 people, including more than 1,200 Democrats, was conducted earlier this month by Zogby International.

CEA Applauds Taiwan Joining Multinational Challenge to European Technology Tarrifs
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today commended Taiwan for filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over tariffs the European Union (EU) imposes on technology products. Taiwan joins the U.S. and Japan, which filed complaints late last month, alleging the EU’s refusal to remove duties on computer monitors, cable converter boxes and printers violates the Information Technology Agreement (ITA).

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today applauded the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for challenging tariffs imposed by European Union (EU) countries on U.S. technology products that impact the ability of American companies to export to Europe. TRADE FUELS $1.4 TRILLION CONSUMER ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY, NEW CEA REPORT FINDS
Fueled by international trade, the consumer electronics (CE) industry is poised to generate $1.4 trillion in direct business activity in 2008, while directly employing more than 4.4 million Americans, according to a new study released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. Burgeoning international trade is helping grow the sector, driving 14 percent of the CE industry's total output and 16 percent of its total employment.

The content and consumer electronics industries united around a policy issue driving both industries – international trade.
