CE Cares: CEA's Comprehensive Safety Campaign

TV Placement
Television sets placed upon unsuitable furniture or inappropriately mounted to a wall may fall and cause injury. As televisions and flat panel displays get larger, more care is needed in installation. To inform the public of possible dangers associated with television-related incidents, CEA's Product Safety Working Group (PSWG) has provided a flyer for cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions as well as the specific dangers associated with flat panel displays. These flyers are meant to help consumers safely install televisions and flat panel displays. CEA encourages its members to use the flyers as part of their consumer outreach or safety information in their users' manuals. If you would like to customize these documents to your company's needs, please contact Megan Hayes.

Infant TV viewing
In response to the American Academy of Pediatric's recent recommendation that children younger than two years of age should not view television, CEA's manufactures have begun voluntarily including the following language in their product literature:
The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages television viewing for children younger than two years of age.
V-Chip Technology
V-Chip technology allows parents the ability to determine what is appropriate for their children to see on and hear on TV. Learn how to use V-Chip technology to control access to your television programming.
Listen
CEA recommends a few simple steps for all consumers when using personal audio devices. First, consumers should set their volume control at a low setting and slowly increase the sound until they can hear it comfortably and clearly, without distortion. Once they have established a comfortable sound level, set the dial and leave it there. Headphones or earphones that are noise-canceling or sound-isolating can also help, so that consumers don't have to raise the volume to compete with outside noises.
Drive
The consumer electronics industry is completely committed to the principle that safety is paramount and a driver's highest priority must be safe control of the vehicle at all times. CEA has supported state legislation imposing limits on the use of in-vehicle electronics to ensure driver safety. CEA also supports ongoing consumer awareness and education through the "Safe Driving" portion of DigitalTips.org.
