CEA URGES CHINESE GOVERNMENT TO HALT “GREEN DAM” SOFTWARE MANDATE

Arlington, Va., July 1, 2009 – Today, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said China will delay the mandatory installation of the “Green Dam-Youth Escort” software on new computers. This software will allow the Chinese government to bar computers from searching certain Internet sites. The following statement can be attributed to CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro.

MAJORITY OF MULTI-ROOM AUDIO/VIDEO OWNERS WOULD RECOMMEND TECHNOLOGY
Owners of multi-room audio video (MRAV) systems assign high value to their home entertainment experience, according to a new study from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. The study, Trends in Multi-room Audio Video Usage, found that the vast majority of MRAV owners -- eighty-two percent -- would recommend their system to friends. Eighty-five percent of homeowners who currently own an MRAV system were so satisfied with the experience that they would once again install a system in a new home. Multi-room audio video (MRAV) systems allow homeowners to play and control audio/video distributed from a centralized system to at least three different rooms of the home.

CEA AND CEDIA STANDARDS COMMITTEE CREATE COMPREHENSIVE BULLETIN FOR HOME THEATER AUDIO DESIGN
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)^® and the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA)’s R10 Residential Systems committee today announced it has approved CEA/CEDIA-CEB22: Home Theater Recommended Practice: Audio Design Bulletin. This new guide provides a baseline for the design and installation of residential spaces to be used for high-performance home theater or multi-channel music playback. While the focus of these two applications is home theater audio design, many of the practices are applicable to multi-purpose, two-channel and other acoustic spaces. Following this bulletin will allow Electronic Systems Contractors (ESCs) to deliver full performance for the equipment and the room allowing consumers to enjoy the best possible listening experience.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)^® and Bedrock Learning announce the creation of the CEA TechHome Symbols package to streamline the process of installing technology into homes. CEA TechHome Symbols will assist architects, designers, builders and electronic systems contractors (ESC) in properly labeling technology on blueprints to ensure accurate placement of installed technology within a home.
