A generation of consumer electronics reporters were mentored by this influential and respected editor. Levis first started covering consumer electronics when he became the English language editor for Dempa Publications in Tokyo in 1972. Back in the U.S., he joined TV Digest in 1975, then three years later was named editor of the trade magazine Consumer Electronics Monthly. He soon was elevated to VP and editorial director of International Thomson Retail Press. In 1985 he was recipient of Jesse H. Neal Award for Excellence by the American Business Press Editors. He served as editor-in-chief of Video Magazine from 1989 until his premature death in 1991.
