Majority of Online Consumers Now Own Tablets, Shows Latest CEA Research

More than half (54 percent) of online U.S. consumers indicate they own tablets, a four percentage point increase since January, according to research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. Consumer Outlook on Tablets (August 2014 Edition), a semi-annual report examining trend information on consumer behavior and sentiment regarding tablets, also shows tablet owners' purchase intent for all consumer electronics devices increased to 62 percent since January – a nine percentage point jump. CEA Discouraged by NAB’s Incentive Spectrum Auction Lawsuit Against FCC

The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding the recent lawsuit filed by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit seeking review of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) broadcast television incentive auction Order: “It is discouraging to see the broadcast television industry reject the FCC’s carefully crafted compromises. Litigating against the incentive auction undermines and delays innovation."

CEA Foundation Extends Grant to Lighthouse Guild’s Technology Center

CEA Foundation Awards Grant to San Diego Futures Foundation

The CEA Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, announced its support of San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF) with a grant to support its Tech Ambassador Program. The program seeks to develop and implement peer-to-peer senior volunteer computer training and support. CEA Applauds Virginia Agreement with Uber and Lyft

The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding Virginia’s decision to give Uber and Lyft temporary authority to operate in the state, Maryland’s designation of Uber as common carrier, and the Washington, D.C. Taxicab Commission’s adoption of further ride-sharing regulations: “We are thrilled the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has ‘righted a previous wrong’ by granting Uber and Lyft temporary authority to operate. This decision clears a path for ride-sharing services to enjoy a permanent home in the Commonwealth and provides Virginians with safer, more affordable transportation options. This move will help protect jobs, create new employment opportunities and reinforce Virginia’s global position as pro-business.
