CEA: Telecommuting, e-Commerce Cut U.S. Energy Usage and GHG Emissions

Our use of consumer electronics (CE) for telecommuting and common e-commerce activities such as e-reading is lowering the country’s energy use and reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to new research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association(CEA)®. “While innovation is constantly developing more energy efficient consumer electronics, the very use of these devices for activities such as teleworking and e-commerce is also leading to significant environmental benefits,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. A Bright Future for Installed Technologies: CEA Study Says Tech Becoming a Central Component of New Construction

According to the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA)® 13th Annual State of Builder Technology Market Study, the market for built-in home technology is experiencing strong growth and becoming an important differentiator in new home construction. The study found that eight in ten builders now offer clients features like structured wiring (84 percent), home theater (80 percent) and monitored security systems (80 percent). Full Release

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® honored Internet pioneer and Revolution Chairman and CEO Steve Case along with U.S. Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) for their instrumental roles in supporting and advancing technology innovation at CEA’s 11th annual Digital Patriots Dinner held Tuesday night, April 14 in Washington, D.C. Where American Pro-Innovation Policy Thrives: CEA Unveils Innovation Scorecard State Ranking

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today released its inaugural Innovation Scorecard, a first-of-its-kind innovation performance index based on ten criteria. The Scorecard evaluates all 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to the conduciveness of their legal, regulatory and overall business environments  to welcome and encourage innovation in 2014. The Scorecard’s inaugural Innovation Champions – those states that earned the highest grades – are Delaware, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.
