With the conclusion of the NCAA’s March Madness basketball tournament and the beginning of the 2015 MLB baseball season, more sports fans than ever are interested in watching live games and events via mobile devices. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® announced today that it is updating its overall 2015 industry revenue forecast to $286 billion to reflect industry sales to consumers. This new figure represents consumer spending projected from the $223 billion total industry wholesale revenue announced earlier this year in CEA’s U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecasts, by accounting for retail margins and additional services. Today’s Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet hearing on “Patent Reform: Protecting America’s Innovators and Job Creators from Abusive Patent Litigation” presented an urgent and powerful case for fixing our broken patent system.
