CEA Applauds Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and Gov. McAuliffe for Reversing Ban on Uber, Lyft
The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®: “We are encouraged by reports that the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is taking steps to allow innovative transportation network providers Uber and Lyft to operate in the Commonwealth. As we noted from the moment the DMV issued a ‘cease-and-desist’ order to these companies, denying them the ability to operate in Virginia is anti-consumer, anti-jobs and directly at odds with Virginia’s reputation as a pro-business state."

CEA: Supreme Court’s Aereo Ruling Disappointing But Narrow Focus and Affirmation of Sony Betamax Fair Use Doctrine Provide Some Solace For Innovation
The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision in the American Broadcasting Companies Inc. v. Aereo Inc. case: “We are disappointed that the Supreme Court today ruled against innovator Aereo, but are pleased the Court said it favored future innovation and specifically referred to the Sony Betamax principles of fair use as a safety valve for new services and technologies. We especially appreciate Justice Scalia’s powerful dissent describing how innovation is often opposed by incumbents who make false, ‘the sky is falling’ predictions about the future.

In-home Consumer Electronics Multiply but Electricity Usage per Home Falls, Finds New CEA Study
Despite their significantly higher market penetration in U.S. homes, consumer electronics (CE) now account for a lower percentage of electricity usage per household than they did three years ago, according to new research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®. The study Energy Consumption of Consumer Electronics in U.S. Homes in 2013 says CE devices accounted for just 12 percent of residential electricity consumption in the U.S. last year, a nine percent drop from their energy consumption share in 2010 (13.2 percent).
