Joseph Returns to CEA in Broadened Management Role
Arlington, VA – 07/16/2012 – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® announced today that communications veteran Jeffrey Joseph has been named senior vice president of communications and strategic relationships, effective August 23.
 
Joseph returns to CEA from the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) where he was its vice president of communications since 2006. He served as CEA’s vice president of communications from August 1998 through March 2006.
 
“We are absolutely thrilled!” said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. “During Jeff’s prior nearly eight-year stint with CEA, he was beloved by both industry and staff. He helped shape the ‘can do’ culture of CEA as it became a strong independent entity and a leading voice in Washington.”
 
The Chairman of the CEA Communications Committee, John I. Taylor of LG Electronics USA, echoed Shapiro’s remarks. “Jeff Joseph is among the top communications executives in the world, and CEA’s members are very fortunate to have someone with his leadership skills, experience, judgment and integrity leading the communications activities for our vibrant industry.”

At BIO, Joseph was responsible for the development and implementation of strategic communications and media outreach campaigns to support BIO’s public policy advocacy agenda and brand the biotechnology industry. Joseph also coordinated outreach efforts to drive media attendance and coverage of the annual BIO International Convention and BIO’s other standalone events and served as a spokesperson on behalf of BIO and the biotechnology industry.

In his prior role at CEA, Joseph managed  communications and served as a primary spokesperson for the consumer electronics industry including the International CES®, public policy issues and member products. He was frequently cited by the Associated Press, Bloomberg, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, San Jose Mercury News and USA Today and well as Dealerscope and TWICE. He has appeared on CNN, CNBC, Fox News Channel and local television stations across the nation discussing issues impacting the consumer electronics industry.

Joseph spent 11 years at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide/Washington where he managed and designed comprehensive, multi-disciplinary communications and media outreach campaigns. As a senior vice president and senior member of Ogilvy’s public affairs division, he led campaigns surrounding some of the most hotly debated issues, including federal and state tax policy, natural resources management, public education and trade. He began his career in communications at the World Resources Institute, a non-profit policy research center in Washington, where he worked in media relations and legislative affairs.

Joseph also has been involved in several political campaigns and served as a media consultant and speechwriter for Washington Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife Lisa and their two daughters. He also enjoys sports, debating politics, listening to music, playing guitar, cooking, traveling and rooting for the Princeton University Tigers and Georgetown University Hoyas men’s basketball teams. Joseph is a 1986 graduate of Princeton University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in religion.
