CEA Disappointed by Governor Brown's Veto of Bill Improving California’s Energy Efficiency Rulemaking Process
On Friday, Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed California Assembly Bill 2581, which would have improved the process by which the California Energy Commission (CEC) considers energy efficiency requirements for electronics and other products and equipment. The bill, advocated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and other high tech trade associations, companies and organizations, would have required the CEC to consider the most current data provided to it prior to a rulemaking, among other provisions. CEA Applauds FCC for Incentivizing Mobile Innovation and Upcoming Spectrum Auction

CEA Joins Global Tech Industry Calling for ITA Win in November
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® issued the following statement on behalf of CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro in response to today’s global tech industry statement in support of a November conclusion of the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) expansion: “Eighty-two tech signatories from around the globe, representing tens of thousands of businesses, are rallying together to support trade negotiators from all member economies in the ITA. We have an opportunity now to come together, bridge gaps and finalize this negotiation so that a huge win may be announced in Beijing at the November APEC Leader’s meeting."

CEA Supports FCC in Sinclair Broadcast Group Challenge
Today, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® filed a Motion for Leave to Intervene in support of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Sinclair Broadcast Group’s challenge to the FCC’s Incentive Auction Order. The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA: “CEA supports the FCC’s Incentive Auction Order and the benefits it promises for American consumers. With bipartisan support, Congress passed and President Obama signed, legislation freeing up broadcaster spectrum to allow consumers greater wireless connectivity."

Let Them Fly: CEA Applauds FAA’s Ruling on Drones
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® issued the following statement on behalf of CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro regarding today’s announcement by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) permitting the use of camera-equipped drones on movie sets: “Today’s decision by the FAA is an important milestone as the agency develops rules to allow unmanned aircraft to operate safely in U.S. airspace. We support the FAA’s action and related guidance that provides a model for other private businesses seeking approval to operate drones in populated areas under controlled environments."
