New Hot Digicam Models

In all, more than 100 new digital products were introduced at PMA 2006 in Orlando, FL.  Many of these products were in the digital camera arena.  New models offer higher megapixels, wider, longer zooms with image stabilization, improved quality, longer recording and wireless capability. Ultra-compact and fashion once again have strong appeal to help whet female user’s appetites for compact, style-oriented cameras.

A number of new DSLRs were introduced by CE companies, who have partnered with traditional photo suppliers (Panasonic with Olympus and Samsung with Pentax). Sony plans to introduce a new DSLR this summer from their acquisition of Konica Minolta. In addition, look for camera phones with upgraded features to play more of a role in the digital imaging world going forward.

Here are ten of the top trendsetting digital cameras for 2006/2007:

Olympus Evolt E-330: This 7.5-megapixel DSLR allows a TTL optical viewfinder experience like that of an SLR with the ability to frame images with an LCD like that of a compact camera.  The Evolt 330 interchangeable lens, DSLR features a true “Live View” uniting the best of both worlds

Pansonic Lumix DMC-L1: Panasonic announced its first DSLR, called the Lumix DMC-L1. A product of the company's collaboration with Olympus, the 7.5MP DMC-L1 includes some of the features found in Olympus' new E-330, including Olympus' Supersonic Wave Filter dust reduction system, and the jointly-developed "mirror box unit" and Live MOS sensor.

Canon EOS 30D: Canon’s new DSLR incorporates features similar to the DSLR offers upgrades such as a 2.5-inch LCD screen; shutter durability rated to 100,000 cycles; addition of the Picture Style function; and increased burst rate.

Fujifilm FinePix F30: This digicam features higher light sensitivity, full resolution ISO equivalency as high as 3200, coupled with 6.3-megapixel resolution while utilizing Fujifilm’s Real Photo Technology.

Sony DSC “H” Cyber-shot Line: The new DSC-H5 model has a 7.2-megapixel CCD imager and extra-large, 3-inch LCD screen. The DSC-H2 model has a 6-megapixel imager and 2-inch LCD. Both cameras have Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 12x optical zoom lenses and focal length ranges of 36-432 mm (35 mm equivalent).

Kodak EasyShare V570: This five-megapixel small, black and silver unit is the only digital compact on the market that sports two lenses, each with its own sensor.

Samsung GX-1S: The Samsung/Pentax jointly designed DSLR is a six-megapixel model featuring Schneider Optics and a 2.5-inch LCD.

Nikon’s Coolpix line: Nikon added seven new Coolpix cameras to its Life, Style and Performance Series. Unique to Coolpix digital cameras, and now for the first time available throughout the line-up, is Nikon's Exclusive Feature System, which gives users the ability to enhance and fix images directly in the camera. The system includes: In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, which automatically detects and corrects red eye; Face-Priority AF, which automatically finds and focuses on a persons face within the frame and provides sharp focus; and D-Lighting, which selects and creates a copy of images with excessive backlight or insufficient flash illumination.

The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-850: This has a 2.5-inch LCD, 38-114mm f/2.8-5.1 zoom lens, and records 640 x 480-pixel video at 30 frames per second. The camera also has an eBay mode that captures smaller-sized pictures – about 2MP – and includes an Auto Macro feature that automatically adjusts the focus when the camera thinks you're shooting a macro shot. This feature is ideal for people who sell products on eBay.

Sony Ericsson K800 and K790: Just after PMA, Sony Ericsson took digital imaging technology in camera phones to the next level with the introduction of the K800 and K790 phones, the first handsets to carry the Cyber-shot brand. Both mobile phones feature 3.2-megapixel digital cameras with Autofocus, Xenon flash and BestPic – Sony Ericsson's new imaging technology.
