Video Accessories Contrary to popular belief, the world is indeed flat. The new world of video display, that is. Displays in both the LCD and plasma camps are getting thinner, flatter and slightly less expensive, tempting a greater portion of fence-sitting consumers to take the plunge finally and replace their old CRT sets with ones capable of digital display. DLP display technology also came into the fore in 2004 and will find its way into more homes this year. Overall, TV shipment revenue hit an all-time high of more than $12 billion in 2004 and will climb to nearly $15 billion this year. Astoundingly, flat panel display technologies will contribute to nearly 40 percent of these sales in 2005. Many of the latest displays require additional cabling, adapters and set-top boxes, particularly for the exploding digital video recorder (DVR) market, which consumers are racing to at breakneck speed. Worldwide DVR shipments are expected to rise from 9.4 million in 2004 to 67 million in 2009, according to market research firm In-Stat. |
