CEA URGES CHINESE GOVERNMENT TO HALT “GREEN DAM” SOFTWARE MANDATE
Arlington, Va., July 1, 2009 – Today, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said China will delay the mandatory installation of the “Green Dam-Youth Escort” software on new computers. This software will allow the Chinese government to bar computers from searching certain Internet sites. The following statement can be attributed to CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro.

CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION TARGETS ONE OF THE STATE’S ONLY ECONOMIC BRIGHT SPOTS, SAYS...
Following Los Angeles Times reporting that Californians are “upgrading their TVs because they're spending more time at home during the economic downturn,” the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today released new data showing that shipments of new flat-panel TVs in the U.S. are up 27 percent over the same period in 2008. More than 1.4 million TVs have been sold in California alone through the first six months of 2009.

CEA APPLAUDS SUPREME COURT'S DECISION IN REMOTE DVR CASE
The United States Supreme Court today denied the petition for a writ of certiorari upholding the legality of Cablevision’s remote digital video recorder (DVR). The technology is functionally identical to a home DVR, and allows viewers to record programs on a remote system within Cablevision’s offices. CONSUMER CONFIDENCE HOLDS STEADY IN JUNE, ACCORDING TO CEA-CNET INDEXES
Consumer confidence in the overall economy held steady in June, according to the latest data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and CNET. The CEA-CNET Indexes also show that consumer confidence in technology and consumer electronics (CE) continues to improve.
