CEA STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF COMMUNITY BROADBAND ACT OF 2007
| Arlington, Virginia | 8/2/2007 |
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® Senior Director, Government Affairs Veronica O’Connell today issued the following statement in response to the Community Broadband Act of 2007 (S. 1853 and H.R. 3281), bi-partisan legislation by the U.S. House and Senate that will advance the nationwide deployment of broadband:
“By preserving the ability of local governments to deploy high-speed networks, the Community Broadband Act of 2007
will work to ensure that every American across our nation has access to broadband. We believe that this important
legislation sets the right framework for public and private partnerships, while allowing local governments to serve the
needs of its citizens.
We applaud the leadership of Senators Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Gordon Smith (R-OR), John Kerry (D-MA), John McCain
(R-AZ), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Ted Stevens (R-AK) and Daniel Inouye (D-HI) and Representatives Rick
Boucher (D-VA) and Fred Upton (R-MI). Passage of this legislation will bring us one step closer to nationwide deployment of
broadband, which will bring enormous benefits to our economy and our global competitiveness.”
