Google has launched technology to place advertisements into popular online video games. AdSense for Games will insert ads into the start, finish, and level change of games in order to boost revenue from the thriving gaming sector.

Smartphone maker Research in Motion (RIM) recently announced Storm, a new model for its ubiquitous BlackBerry line featuring touch-screen capabilities. The device will feature tactile feedback for users typing on the phone’s screen.

A new offer from cable provider Comcast will provide a year’s worth of free basic cable service to households that receive over-the-air signals on analog televisions. Households will receive 12 months free when signing up for any Comcast digital service, such as phone or Internet.

Video sharing site YouTube will begin to offer music, films, games, books and other media through online links to Amazon.com and iTunes. Revenue from the content will be shared between YouTube and the online retailers.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced that it will split into two companies, one focused on designing microprocessors and the other on manufacturing. The “smart asset” strategy will allow AMD to invest more in developing chips to better compete with rival Intel Corp.

A plan to help finance the rollout of digital cinema equipment has gained support from five of the major Hollywood film studios. Making digital cinema equipment available in theaters would make way for products such as 3-D films.

Mobile Broadband Service Mark Coming to Mobile Devices
The GSM Association has unveiled a service mark for mobile devices such as notebook computers that signifies the inclusion of an embedded mobile broadband module. These modules allow devices to connect to the Internet whenever a 3G network is present.
