2006 Design and Engineering Awards
Ideas so big they need a venue of their own
The prestigious Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Awards, sponsored by CEA and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), have highlighted the most cutting-edge product advancements in technology design and engineering since 1989.
Winning entries from 30 product categories will be on display at the 2006 International CES Product Showcase, Booth #72444, at the all-new Innovations Plus at the Sands. With more than 1,000 entries, the Innovations program continues to grow in size and prestige each year. The awards program gives manufacturers and developers the opportunity to have their products judged by an independent panel of journalists, designers and engineers.
The Best of Innovations designation is awarded to products that earned the highest honors from the panel of judges. These “best of the best” products will be on display during CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the CES at the Sands and in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center. To qualify for the competition, entrants must manufacture, design or develop products marketed in the U.S. that are commercially available at retail outlets between January 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006.
Award plaques are displayed in the honorees’ booths at the International CES to give the companies industry-wide recognition as technology leaders. The honorees can use the Innovations 2006 logo on all packaging and advertising to identify their company as having achieved excellence in product design and engineering.
Cast your vote for your favorite Innovations 2006 product at electronic polling stations in the Innovations Showcase by 1 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006, for your chance to win a ZAP Xebra electric car. The Scientific American Innovations People’s Choice Award, sponsored by ZAP, will be announced at an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday.
New to the Innovations 2006 exhibit at CES, the IDSA Design Awareness Program gives attendees the opportunity to further explore the importance of industrial design in developing innovative products. Industrial designers, the professionals who shape products to fit the user and achieve market success, designed virtually all of the Innovations products. More than 20 design firms nationwide will showcase their capabilities and award-winning creations. For a complete list of Innovations honorees and product photos, visit http://www.cesweb.org/. V
