Program Description
This logo indicates that the Radio Data System (RDS) is a data stream transmitted on the 57 kHz subcarrier of an FM broadcast signal. It can carry information like song title, artist, call letters, station slogan, advertising messages, emergency messages, traffic alerts and so on. This information is then displayed on the text screens of RDS-equipped radio receivers. RDS transmissions in the United States comply with the United States Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) standard published by the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC). The NRSC is co-sponsored by CEA and the National Association of Broadcasters.
The U.S. RBDS Standard (NRSC-4-A) is available at nrscstandards.org.
