Innovation Entrepreneur Awards

CEA’s inaugural Innovation Entrepreneur Awards (IEA) program, sponsored by It Is Innovation (i3) magazine and the Small Business Council (SBC) recognized the contributions of one executive and two small companies in the CE industry that innovate to grow their businesses and also excel in community outreach at the Industry Forum member luncheon. Participation is limited to CE companies with annual domestic revenue under $30 million.

The winners are GrandCare Systems, ecoATM and Sandy Gross. EcoATM was founded in 2008 by Tom Tullie as an automated eCycling Station for eWaste recycling. Its automated kiosk buys back used CE products like cell phones and provides cash or an in-store credit. GrandCare Systems integrates daily activities into a touch-based system for seniors. Charlie Hillman originally created the system to help his great-aunt live independently. Gross is co-founder of Polk Audio, Definitive Technology and his latest business, GoldenEar Technology. Calling Entrepreneurs

Startup Weekend starts on January 4-6, at the InNEVation Center in Las Vegas – just days before CES opens. This non-profit brings entrepreneurs together with one goal: going from idea to launch. The weekend has three segments: pitch, build and present. Friday is pitch night where anyone with an idea has one minute to present to the group which then votes for the top eight to 10 ideas. Teams are formed and build until Sunday afternoon when they present their ideas to investors. The winning team exhibits at CES Unveiled that evening. For information: lasvegas.startupweekend.org.
