Support the Digital Patriots Award Dinner and Telecoms Without Borders

The Digital Patriots awards program was created by CEA to recognize and celebrate industry and government leaders who fight for the freedom to innovate and change the world through digital technology. The event offers high level exposure to the industry's top leaders, key members of Congress and other government agencies.

Past honorees have included Michael Dell, Intel's Craig Barrett, Bill Gates, Verizon's Ivan Seidenberg and distinguished members of the House and Senate.

Top Music and Digital Execs Pack the Halls at Digital Music Forum East

A crowd of 350+ music and technology executives braved cold and snowy conditions to pack the auditorium and halls at the 10th Annual Digital Music Forum East in New York last week. While acknowledging that times remain tough for the recorded industry, the mood was upbeat and positive and talk focused around the plethora of services in the digital space from Spotify to Pandora to VEVO and opportunities for bands and brands, mobile apps and other new services. The event ended with a bash at the LimeWire headquarters featuring musician/raconteur/dreamboat Andrew W.K. playing DJ and MC, as well as some killer performances from Vivian Girls and Holy Ghost Tent Revival. "Simply amazing," commented an attendee.

Natali Del Conte is a correspondent for The CBS Early Show and WCBS and a host on CNET's Loaded.

Consumer Electronics to Grow in 2010, According to CEA Forecast

The CE industry will generate more than $165 billion in U.S. shipment revenues this year, a slight increase from 2009, according to the semi-annual industry forecast released by CEA.

The wireless handset category is expected to have a strong 2010, becoming the primary revenue driver for the industry. Smartphones continue to lead the way, generating nearly $17 billion in shipment revenue and more than 52 million unit sales in 2010.

Mobile Technology Combating World AIDS Epidemic

Robert Fabricant knows the impact of technology. As vice president of creative for frog design, he leads teams for name brands such as AOL, BBC, Coca-Cola Comcast, GE, MTV, Nextel and Nissan. But some of Fabricant's most important clients also depend on technology to survive. frog's Design for Impact initiative includes Project Masiluleke, which has harnessed the power of mobile technology to combat the world's worst HIV and AIDS epidemic in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

CEA, AE Ventures Launch TechHome Mediterraneo 100 Summit

CEA and AE Ventures have announced a new community and event for residential systems integration companies in Southern Europe: CEA TechHome Mediterraneo (THM). THM will kick off with an online directory of integrators in France, Italy and Spain, followed by the formation of the THM 100 -- the top 100 systems integration companies in the region. CEA and ASHA Continue Collaboration to Promote Safe Listening

CEA continues its work with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to promote safe listening habits. CEA and ASHA partnered with leading children's musicians Billy Jonas, Justin Roberts, Brady Rymer and Linda Severt to produce 30- and 60-second audio PSAs with each artist promoting safe listening tips for children of all ages. The PSAs will run in radio markets where ASHA's "Listen to Your Buds Safe Listening Concerts" are held. The two organizations also partnered to produce a new Listening for a Lifetime brochure to promote safe listening, in tandem with ASHA's Listen To Your Buds campaign, which teaches young children how to protect their hearing.

What Does the Public Think About E-Waste Recycling?

A new Pike Research study, Electronics Recycling and E-Waste Issues, sheds light on the public's opinion regarding the problem of escalating waste from discarded, outdated electronic devices. This independent survey found that while 76 percent of Americans consider recycling to be the best option for reducing e-waste, only 10 percent believes the financial responsibility rests with manufacturers. Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed think recycling services should be free, and nearly the same amount (35 percent) feel that curbside e-waste pickup, similar to municipal trash pickup, should be provided. Regen Shines as Another i-stage Success Story

Regen's ReNu is proving that i-stage will not hit a sophomore slump, as the winner of the second annual competition has already garnered critical praise on par with the inaugural champ boxee. In the same month that boxee announced expansions to its own product line, Regen took the spotlight and charged up tech and environmental blogs alike, with TreeHugger saluting it as the sexiest of solar chargers. Regen's star power has also made it the first i-stage winner to take home a CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award, in the portable power category. New CEA Study Segments Digital Photographer Market

Six segments of digital photographers exist according to a new CEA analysis. The study, The Digital Photographer - Segmenting the Market to Gain Deeper Understanding, shows the segments are the Frustrated Photogs making up 25 percent of the market, Digital Curators (23 percent), One-Click Wonders (15 percent), Feature-Focused Photogs (16 percent), Picture Happy Socialites (10 percent) and Digital Mavericks (10 percent). While only one percent of digital photographers consider themselves to be professionals or experts, the vast majority (63 percent) consider themselves to be average users. The complete study is available free to CEA members. Non-members may purchase the study at the CEA store.
