Discussing Driver Safety with Matt Howard of Zoomsafer
Aug 05, 2010 11:35:32

In recent years, a new social issue has been brought to the public eye; cell phone use while driving. Aside from the evident risks of hands-on cell phone use while driving, there are serious fines implemented if you are caught in 'no cell phone zones.' To reduce the hazards and temptations of distracted driving, Matt Howard envisioned ZoomSafer, providing software and services for mobile phones to ensure safe and legal driving. The software uses GPS to detect when the cell phone is in a vehicle going over 15 mph. It locks the phone into "safe driver mode" preventing keypad usage but enabling hands-free cell phone activity. Additionally, ZoomSafer has created FleetSafer for Businesses. The software allows companies to enforce safe and legal driving in order to aid risk management. Read more at CEA Digital Dialogue.

3DTV Study Finds Interest Up But Education and Content Needed
Jul 14, 2010 11:30:16

Interest is heating up and many consumer electronics sales associates are excited for 3D technologies, according to a new study from CEA.

The 3D Retail Experience -- Opinions of Sales Associates survey of more than 250 retail sales associates selling 3DTVs also found that many consumers are still confused about 3D technology. Sales associates interviewed report roughly 50 percent of shoppers have an overall positive response to 3D technologies while only two percent respond negatively.

Additionally, 80 percent of sales associates report seeing an increase in interest and traffic over the past several months. To help retailers answer many of the frequently asked questions, CEA has developed a 3DTV primer at DigitalTips.org. CEA is also organizing National 3D Demo Days (September 10-12, 2010) and will provide retailers the tips and tools needed to offer the consumer the best possible 3D retail experience.  The complete 3D study is available free to CEA members.

Interest in 3D Gaming Extends Beyond the Avid Gamer
Jun 20, 2010 09:55:29

Interest in 3D gaming is strongest among early adopters and gaming enthusiasts, but a new study from CEA shows that interest in 3D gaming extends to the casual video game player as well.

The 3D Gaming: Entertainment's Next Dimension study of online U.S. adults also found that more consumer demonstrations and education are needed before adoption can take off. Most consumers expect to use their 3D gaming device to watch 3D movies (58 percent) and connect to the Internet (51 percent). Nearly half (45 percent) want to download games and content directly to their gaming device. Consumers also want their gaming device to have backward-compatibility with 2D content.

Webcast: Stop Product Returns Before They Start
Jun 02, 2010 01:39:22

All agree that a satisfying shopping experience is a powerful way to prevent costly product returns. Manufacturers are partnering with retailers to educate shoppers at the point of sale and are also using proactive solutions to help consumers self serve answers to their own questions once they get their products home to avoid unnecessary calls to customer support and expensive product returns.

The bottom line: ensuring consumer satisfaction from showroom to family room reduces customer support costs, lowers product returns, increases margins and improves customer service levels all of which are important for both manufacturers and retailers.

CEA and ShowUhow present a joint webcast on Wednesday, June 9 showcasing best practices and trends on how the industry is working to reduce customer support costs and product returns. All webcast participants will receive a FREE copy of the IDC whitepaper on improving the consumer experience to reduce customer support costs and returns. One lucky attendee will win a free iPad!
