Activity on Energy Efficiency and CE Products Continues at State, Federal and International Levels
CEA is lobbying bills in 10 states, most of which target audio and DVD products and a few of which would grant new power to state agencies to regulate any electronic or electrical product.  At the federal level, CEA recently submitted comments to the Department of Energy regarding external power supplies and battery chargers and also submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency about the planned revision of the Energy Star specification for TVs.  Among activity at the international level is a July 2007 energy efficiency forum in China co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry which CEA and other industry groups are helping to plan.  On the research side, CEA will be revising its recent study on CE energy use (currently posted at www.ce.org/energy) with new data on DTV energy consumption and also producing a new study on energy savings resulting from the use of CE products.

CEA Pushes for Uniform State Regulation of In-Vehicle Video Displays; Alaska Legislation Advances
CEA and other industry groups are advocating language to serve as a model for states seeking to revise or create laws related to the use and installation of video display screens in motor vehicles.  Alaska House Bill 88, recently introduced as a measure to regulate in-vehicle video display devices, has passed one House committee and will be heard before another today.  In general, policy makers are concerned about video screens installed in vehicles (OEM and aftermarket) as well as products with video display capabilities that are carried into vehicles.  At least 14 bills are pending in eight states on the topic of in-vehicle video.
