Intel's chairman Craig Barrett delivers the opening keynote from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, January 9, followed by a dynamic panel discussion, Creating the Global Tech Ecosystem" from 2-3 p.m. Then Cisco chairman and CEO John Chambers will close the program with his keynote from 3-4 p.m. Visit Summits on Child and Seniors Technology During 2009 International CES Be sure to check out Kids@Play: Building a Smarter Tomorrow, a conference and exhibition during the International CES, which will bring together educators, toy manufacturers, consumer electronics companies, policymakers, service industries and media to discuss how technology is changing the way kids and their families play, learn and connect on January 10th. YouTube contest. The video, "The Conversion" was chosen as the grand prize winner from among numerous eligible videos. The "Digital TV: Convert Now!" contest is one of several nationwide educational efforts spearheaded by CEA to inform consumers about the transition to digital television on February 17, 2009. CEA launched this YouTube contest in October to encourage consumer efforts to spread awareness of the digital transition, taking place in February. To further encourage participation, popular country music band Whiskey Falls created a new video, "We are America," which explained contest details and demonstrated how consumers can prepare for the DTV transition. David Grossman Consumer Electronics Industry Represented at World Electronics Forum The 14th annual World Electronics Forum was held in New Delhi, India from December 1-5, 2008. Thirty-three CEOs, directors and delegates from more than 10 economies, representing four continents, attended the 2008 WEF. During the meeting, WEF members reaffirmed that eco-design must be promoted and manufacturers should consider the environment at all stages of production and throughout the entire product life-cycle. WEF members concluded by creating a working group, to be chaired by CEA's Parker Brugge, whose mission will be to establish a set of high-level principles covering topics such as materials restrictions, energy use disclosures and best management practices, contribution of IT and electronics utilization to reduction of the environmental burden in a global scenario.
